The APRA Board of Directors have named Killian Gavin, Jonathon Hart, Timothy Hart, David Hosking and Jacob Tarasenko (Boy & Bear) the Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year for their songwriting achievements on the debut album Moonfire.

The phenomenal success of their 2010 EP, With Emperor Antarctica, transformed the Sydney quintet from promising newcomers to bonafide international sensations, helping them land two songs in triple j’s 2010 Hottest 100. With all these accolades Boy & Bear found themselves perfectly placed to take things to the next level for their first full-length effort Moonfire.

The first single Feeding Line led the way and saw Boy & Bear shift effortlessly into darker, deeper moods, melding huge atmospheres with sonic adventurousness. “Honesty resonates,” says lead vocalist David Hosking. “And I think that if it resonates with you as a writer, then it is going to resonate with the listener as well. I think that just happens naturally.”

Boy & Bear’s largest tour to date is selling out around the country, with shows in Adelaide, Brisbane and two performances in Melbourne all now SOLD OUT. Those who want to catch the band off the back of their ARIA Award-winning album “Moonfire” better move quickly! Minimal tickets are now left for regionals Albany and Albury and Sydney is teetering on the very edge, with only a handful of tickets left. The second over 18s show in Melbourne is also moving fast, with tickets expected to be SOLD OUT in the coming days.

Boy & Bear are pleased to announce that they will be adding a show to their run in Western Australia, with Mandurah Performing Arts Centre set to play host on Sunday 13th May. The band have also recently been announced on Darwin’s Bass In The Grass festival, where they will make their debut Northern Territory performance and expand the tour into one more territory.

Boy & Bear’s Remember The Mexican National Tour has also gone from big to huge with The Jungle Giants and Tin Sparrow now throwing their hat in the ring. The Jungle Giants have been the darlings of triple j since their single ‘Mr Polite’ inundated their airwaves last year. The single comes from their self-titled EP, which has been causing a bit of a stir itself, landing them tours with Ball Park Music, Andy Bull and a SOLD OUT co-headline tour with San Cisco across the country. Lead singer and writer Sam Hales’ talent has not gone unnoticed, with the Queensland Music Awards handing him with the Billy Thorpe Scholarship late last year. It has enabled Sam and the band to put some more time into what their good at: writing killer tunes. They will be looking to the Boy & Bear tour to display exactly what has been in the works behind the scenes, on stage.

Tin Sparrow will be opening what is to be an evening of incredible tunes. After being named ‘Unsigned Artist of The Week’ on Sydney’s FBI, their new single ‘Azzuro’ has already earned its worth in spins, receiving much attention from community radio across the nation and also getting the nod of approval from triple j. In fact, it’s hard to ignore the endorsement received with triple j big wigs Nina Las Vegas, Dom Alessio, Sarah Howells and Richard Kingsmill all giving it props on the band’s triple j unearthed page – some with four stars to top it off. They will hit the ground running onto the Remember The Mexican tour with their EP set for release in April along with their own headline tour along the East Coast, just before hitting the road with Boy & Bear.

Boy & Bear’s Remembering The Mexican National Tour is on sale now. Their album “Moonfire” is out now via UMA.

Boy & Bear’s biggest Australian tour went on sale last week to a fanfare of ticket buyers. Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide tickets were nearly all snapped up, but it was the Melbourne fans that spoke the loudest, with The Forum’s Friday 18th May show SELLING OUT within two days. The Under 18s show at Melbourne’s Hi Fi is not far behind, expected to also sell out within the week. Boy & Bear have responded to the demand by adding a second and final show in Melbourne, on Wednesday 16th May at The Forum. Tickets for this show will go on sale this Wednesday 6th March at 9am.

After the phenomenal success of their 2010 EP, With Emperor Antarctica – which transformed the Sydney quintet from promising new comers to bonafide international sensations, Boy & Bear found themselves perfectly placed totake things to the next level for their first full-length effort Moonfire.

The band have just announced that they will be sharing their success overseas, playing a 12 date tour across Europe and the UK, before returning home to do a 26 date show across Australia.

Their honesty and hard work has resonated with the public resulting in Sold Out shows all across Australia for their first album tour, and a main stage slot at Australia’s biggest festival, Big Day Out. They also picked up 5 ARIA awards and are shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. “Moonfire” is available in the UK through Co-Op, a label that the likes of Phoenix, Bloc Party and Mumford & Sons call home. Make sure you get in early to secure your tickets!

Australia is in for one big treat from Boy & Bear, as they look to thank their fans for what has been a year of big journeys and greater accomplishments for the Sydney quintet. From Adelaide to Albury, Brisbane to Bunbury, Cairns to Canberra, Boy & Bear will be dropping into every corner of the country in May to reflect on where it all began and give a nod to those who made it happen.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that the nation was falling in love with one of Boy & Bear’s pivotal first singles, ‘Mexican Mavis’. Creeping slowly through the national airwaves, discovered by music lovers and settling itself in minds across the country, ‘Mexican Mavis’ was an accidental statement of intent. The knowledge of the five gentlemen from Sydney grew; generated mainly by their passionate followers, and soon the gathering that Boy & Bear found themselves in front of had turned into a congregation.

Boy & Bear has grown into a bigger beast then even the five core members could have ever imagined. Their EP, driven by singles ‘Mexican Mavis’ and ‘Rabbit Song’ saw them tour internationally, gain praise from tough critics and get the nod from triple j; winning the Unearthed JAward. Now their debut album “Moonfire” is receiving all the attention; securing six ARIA awards, a prestigious shortlist nomination for The Amp and entering triple j’s hottest 100 three times, with single ‘Feeding Line’ reaching the top five.

But this is one band to not forget their roots, keeping themselves firmly grounded with friends and family in Sydney they now look forward to sharing their success in the form of a huge 27 date tour. Playing intimate rooms in regional areas, they have intentionally kept capacities low to make for some very special performances for those who have supported the band from the beginning.

Tickets to Boy & Bear’s Remember The Mexican Tour will go on sale at 9am on the 27th of February.

As a special Thank You to existing fans, Sign up to the mailing list by Thursday 16th Feb, 5pm and an email will be sent on Friday 17th Feb with the password to gain access to the pre sale.
